this week has been full of surprises, late night laughs, sweaty bike rides and awesome miracles. hopefully i can cram a few experiences into this email.
the cookie people.
we made some friends this week! on wednesday we were serving in the bakery and it was super busy. we just had a bunch of school tours and kids and families and groups coming all day. well an hour or so before closing time, a family of 4 came back to our site! they told us that we had been exposed. we wanted to know what they were talking about!! we soon found out that somehow, in the craziness of everything, we had forgotten to give them cookies at the end of the tour haha. some other seniors later were talking about the cookies and that led this family to come back and call us out for our mistake hahaha. it was funny. well, we saw them the next day too! they came to the post office and we had a great tour. they told us that they only had one day left in nauvoo and wanted to see us the next day. so we told them we were serving at lyon drug. turns out they saved that tour for last so they could see us! they also brought us rootbeer to say thank you for being their friends. it was so fun haha i love families like that where we have friends for the weekend! she also texted us the picture we took together and told us that she has been doing missionary work! yay!
the site guide 2.0
update! we have a new site guide! the changes arent super drastic but the changes are soooo good and needed. im so pleased with it and how they have been adjusting it. i know they have more room to improve but im grateful for the new site guides we have! as soon as i got my site guide i was pouring through it all day, excited to see what had been updated. so awesome. i found a lot more connections to preach my gospel in this version! sweet.
the legendary black skinny jeans
another reason why president lusvardi is so great haha. we always go on a bike tour at night with him whenever sisters arrive to nauvoo. and i was so excited for them to see him in his skinny jeans haha. it was a lovely evening, and i really felt the spirit in the smith family cemetery, more than i have in the past. so that was a cool experience.
what did you learn on your mission? well....
we served in the family living center this week and i spent the day making ropes, baking bread and weaving a rug. oh and giving tours on how to do all 3 of those things plus candles and spinning. i love working at the family living center its a cool place to learn how the saints really lived on a day to day basis! im also able to experience new things and develop skills haha. so throw me back into the 1840s cuz i can make ropes, candles, rugs, bread and clothes! hahaha
chamber of commerce
this is a thing the nauvoo community does every year or so where different businesses and things get together to talk about what each person brings to nauvoo! it was a cool way to introduce sister john to nauvoo. she kept being like "oh! we should go there on pday!" "that sounds fun!"
the grey shirt miracle
this one was so cool im gonna tell you when we talk on the phone(:
seeing the fruits/flowers of our labors
working at fm this week was so fun! we planted more seedlings, and then planted flowers all around nauvoo. we planted beds by browning gun, the bakery, the vc and the exodus on parley street. so much fun. one of the best parts was that the seedlings we nourished when i went to fm for the first time were ready to be planted and we put them in those flower beds! so cool to watch that growth and be a part of that(:
bomb companion studies
okay so weve had some awesome companion studies so far. yesterday we did one about safeguards and device audits and how important it is to be obedient to those rules even if we dont like them! it was so cool because the day after we had that study i noticed a change in the way sister john used her phone and how she kept those safeguards more obviously. i love it!!
#CovenantCommunity adrenaline
also last night we had some free time so we did covenant community secret service in some of the ysms apartments. it was so fun! sister john loved it and was very hyped up about it. we got scared a few times when we thought people were coming home!!
grunt piggy grunt grunt initiation
the new sisters had to be welcomed properly...... thats all i have to say about that haha.
introducing.... sister John!
so! sister john is amazing. pre-trained. she doesnt really need my help. i love her a ton and i think shes the best. im worried that because she is so great that she will train and we will be split up on may 29th. (when the next batch of sisters get here.) i really hope that doesnt happen because i want more time to get to know her and spend time with her! shes from logan utah, has a bunch of siblings, and her story for why she came on a mission is super cool. i love how easy going, cheerful and independent she is!
a broken heart.
so in my scripture study this week i came across an interesting phrase in alma 24. its talking about the anti nephi lehis and how theyve repented.
verse 11: "....and to get God to take [the sins] away from our hearts, for it was all we could do to repent sufficiently before god that he would take away our stain"
i was pondering all week what it meant for god to take away the sin from our hearts.
i think that it means that as we fully repent of our sins, god takes the heartache from making that mistake away. he doesnt take it away from our minds- that way we can remember it and try not to do it again- but i think he takes the pain away from out heart. and for that reason we need to have a broken heart when we repent. an open heart. otherwise, he cant take that heartache away. or he cant take the desire for that sin away. thats another way to look at it too. so thats just something ive been thinking about(:
thats about all for this week haha. i dont know why this email seems shorter than my other emails...... probably cuz i didnt type out the whole grey shirt miracle haha.
anyways i love you voth so much!!! cant wait to talk to you in 30 minutes!!!!!! (:
love
sister Bush
