June 24, 2019

okay first off, we had transfers!!!! on wednesday night, i said goodbye to sister pancheri (tear tear) and hello to sister decker!

i love my new companion. her name is sister Decker. when i first met her i thought she was going to be mean because she was so pretty haha but she is one of the nicest souls ive ever met. i love hanging out with her! sister Decker is from queen creek AZ, (near gilbert) and has a fun family. her little sister has down syndrome and her dad is in a wheelchair- and their family pictures are literally the cutest thing ive ever seen. sister decker has such a sweet spirit to her. 24/7 she is working hard to follow the spirit, love the guests and serve others. i feel like shes always reading the scriptures and that she genuinely just loves to serve. our first night talking to each other we washed the dishes together. another super cool thing about her is that she already has a testimony of pageant! she was in the family cast for pageant when she was like 16 years old and she said it really helped her testimony of the restoration grow. and now she got called here and she can help with pageant in an even cooler way!!! cuz now she gets to be the missionary at pageant! so neat. so we are both super hyped for pageant and we want to give our all. its really cool because God keeps blessing me with the companions i need for whatever the next step is on my mission.

another thing about transfers is that i am now a district leader. so there are 8 girls in my district that i have responsibility for: me, sister decker, sister mitchell, sister robison, sister young, sister pulido, sister norton and sister mckenzie. as a district leader i lead district council every week, keep the district updated with mission news, plan pdays with them, and just minister to them. its super fun. our first district council i felt impressed that we just needed to get to know each other and build friendships, so we did a game night. we played the flour game, grunt piggy grunt grunt, signs and werewolf. it was quite the evening haha but everyone loved it. i just made sure to tell them that the reason we were playing games is because we arent just a district, we are a family(: super cute. im excited to keep learning with them and growing with them this pageant season. (cuz we wont transfer until pageant is over) pageant begins this upcoming sunday sort of. thats when one of the first performances is, and then the actual pageants begin on july 3. so excited!!!!

tuesday sister pancheri and i served in the bakery and we had 49 tours. it was a crazy day if you ask me! best part was there were 2 teenage kids who came while their parents were at the temple and we gave them the bakery rap- we even taught them part of it. we told them to bring their family back for a final performance haha and we didnt think they would but they actually did!!! so funny. plus also with all the youth groups i felt inspired a couple times to mention depression - that maybe lucuis experienced that but he was able to rely on christ by going to the temple. not sure who needed to hear that but it was good to follow the prompting.

wednesday we served at land and records! i love that place. its all about family history. i was able to research william gheen more! i found out that he visited joseph and hyrum in carthage just before they died, and also helped take their bodies back to nauvoo. it was pretty cool to learn that. also it was pouring that day so sister pancheri and i ended up doing a lot of biking in the rain. i thought it would be miserable but we had a good time, lots of laughs haha.
Plus also that day I pulled the victory of all victory pranks! I put mayo in sister gublers conditioner hahahahaha she came into my apartment with sopping wet hair and pointed her finger at me saying YOU. hahaha we had a good laugh about it tho. She swears she will get me back But idk if she can top that one!!

thursday was my first full day with sister decker and we spent it in the post office!!! also we spent friday in the post office as well!! it was actually like the coolest thing ever. we had so so so so many miracles!!!
First, we met these two guys, and they kept coming back to visit us and ask us questions. They told us they trusted our insights so they would only go to sites or shows that we recommended hahaha it was so funny. But we like planned their whole trip for them. And they loved it!! They brought us fudge before they left and told us that their trip was amazing because of us. They told us that we strengthened their testimonies and that they were so grateful for us. Cute right!!
Another cool experience we had was with a young man who is on leave from his mission because he has a hand injury and he can't go back into the field until it heals. I could tell he was struggling. The spirit told me to testify of Carthage and invite their family to go in with questions, because it is a place of revelation. He was like the spirit is so strong. I got my testimony in carthage. Then I just looked at him and the spirit put the words in my mouth to say "what you have been praying about will be answered at carthage." It was SO COOL!!!
We also met a couple who met and got married because of their missions and so that was cool too. We really connected with them because in the first 2 seconds of them coming into our site we were quoting the emperor's new groove together haha. We had lots of fun with them!
Another family we loved was one who had a daughter about to put in her mission papers (: we felt prompted to tell them to look for the whys at the sites. Like why did the saints go west. Why did John Taylor stay with Joseph at carthage. Why is the post office important. Why did Browning gun set up a shop in winter quarters. We told them it would make a huge difference in their trip! So neat. They were so grateful for our insights! We also met a friend from the pre-mortal life! Haha linda is the sweetest and we just had some really tender moments with her. She told us she just wanted to adopt us. How much she could see the light of Christ in us and how much she felt she was supposed to come to Nauvoo to meet us. How cute!!!
And to top it off, at the post office we discovered a copy of a letter Joseph sent to Emma when he was in liberty jail. Our hearts were so touched by his words- he only was concerned about his family, the church and didn't even mention how hard it was. It was a sacred moment to discover and read that letter together. So inspiring, and it gave us such a fire for the post office!!! Even the sites that seem insignificant are huge testimony builders. Every shop, store and home in nauvoo is important. I love it.

On Saturday we were roving, so we were kinda all over the place. We were serving at the visitors center, boot shop and Browning gun. I can't remember much else haha. We also watched some of the ypm shows! So fun.

Sunday morning I woke up like normal, got ready for the day and was excited to go to church. When i went to the bathroom after waking up, i felt aching in my lower abdomen and a burning. In my mind i was like please no, not another UTI. but it faded away and i quickly brushed it off. As I began to eat breakfast, i recognized some nausea in my stomach. As I finished getting my hair and makeup ready I also noticed some slight pain increasing in my lower abdomen and lower back and also a spot in my back.
We drove to church and the pain intensified so much that it consumed my thoughts entirely. My whole focus was on how much hurt I felt and trying to figure out why.
I went to the bathroom before church began but nothing helped. The spirit encouraged me to talk with Dr Bingham. I quickly found him, told him my symptoms and he invited me to schedule an appointment with the doctor here in town, and if it got worse to go to the ER.
Well, it was getting worse. My body was trembling with pain as I sang the opening song and heard the opening prayer in the chapel. As we got through the announcements and started singing the sacrament hymn I felt like I was going to throw up. All I could do was pray and ask God for help. I expressed to him my desire to take the sacrament and asked Him to help me be able to do so.
The sacrament hymn finished, I was still in a lot of pain. As soon as the priesthood holder said the words "O God the Eternal Father" into the microphone, my pain faded into the background. Though I still hurt a little bit, I was able to focus on the Savior. I was able to pray. I was able to renew my covenant. And that was a huge miracle for me! It showed me just how much the Lord cares.
And then, right after that an elder began speaking of times in life when we have to rely completely on the Lord and how we should do that every day. It was so cool. The spirit was strong and I was full of such gratitude for my Heavenly Father!
Now I'm just waiting to see what's wrong with me haha. But I'm not freaking out, not really any pain at all. Except for those 2 random episodes. I have faith that whatever is happening it will all work out!!!
Also Sunday night was awesome because I got to attend a youth testimony meeting, where they all shared experiences from Nauvoo and how they've been changed from their time here. I loved it.
Right after that president Lusvardi invited us to watch a live devotional of elder holland addressing new mission presidents and their wives in the mtc! So cool! Almost the whole quorum of the 12 was there. It was such an inspiring amazing event!!! We felt so lucky to be able to tune in
Also I'm including quotes I've liked this week because I knew mom would love them! Haha

Also I cheered when I heard Utah county sent you payments! Yay!

Glad the packing is going well!!! Love you both so much!!!!!

email to family:::
Heyo!!

About the ward mission plan:
Heres a couple i had additional thoughts I have added to yours-

Read Preach My Gospel as a ward !!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS ONE. preach my gospel is not just for missionaries, it's meant for all members. I'm not sure how you would want to implement this but I love it.

Hold a ward-wide 40-day fast (each day a different member or family signs up to fast), hold a break-the-fast missionary activity at the end. Better yet, make the break the fast on a Sunday and encourage the ward to invite friends to church that Sunday - a special Sunday to receive the blessings of the fast. That way it isn't just a "oh I fasted for missionary work to progress" but it was more like "I fasted for missionary opportunities and then I did something about it and invited someone to church." That would be way cool. Just make sure the missionaries come to your ward that Sunday (;

Have a sacrament meeting more yearly dedicated to missionary work ----- something the ward in Sidney Nebraska did that was cool was they had special "invitation sundays" where the ward knew that each family needed to invite someone to come to church that Sunday and the ward leaders planned church to be all about the Savior and the restoration of his gospel.

Have a fireside in which missionaries that have recently returned speak (invite mission president to speak, invite recent converts to share their experience)
Have a missionary concert in which missionary- related songs are performed
- these two could be the same event!! Nice.

Add missionaries phone number to bulletin- YES please do. And on the program. And even if you want you could encourage everyone in one of your activities to add it to their contacts if they don't already have it.

Have a ward missionary activity where everyone share their conversion story and missionary experiences with one another - another fun thing you could do is have fun and have an activity where members Role Play scenarios to share the gospel in normal and natural ways - see elder Uchtdorf talk as well as the new videos the church is going to put out called come and see, come and help and come and stay.

Hold a special second-hour meeting to brainstorm with ward members about how to increase our missionary efforts - this would probably be super cool and effective. Have the missionaries that cover your ward try to be there so they can help!

Man I would have loved to have you as my ward mission leader in a ward I served in! You are awesome!

Also mom, Lots of those questions from your Infinite atonement thoughts are the ones I was pondering yesterday! I'm going to do a personal study based off your email tomorrow (:

Also by the way the pranks continue....
Toothpaste Oreos didn't work the way we wanted so we
Sticky noted their whole room haha
Then we had someone's name tag put in jello hahaha

So on Tuesday we Served in the Bakery- you know I love that place haha. I especially loved it this time because we gave different tours every time. One of them was even a bakery rap... I'll show you on FaceTime haha but besides that silly tour we had some really cool ones, we taught a lot about covenants.

Wednesday we were at the Cultural hall and then family living center. I studied masonry that day! Masonry has never been my favorite subject. Not that it is a stumbling block to my testimony or anything haha but masonry and plural marriage I never understood and so it made me uncomfortable! Well all day I studied masonry and pondered it. It was a faith building experience! So if you have any questions about plural marriage or masonry, I'm probably the one haha. I don't have all the answers but I actually understand it now.

Thursday we were at the wilford Woodruff home. Such a sweet spirit there. My favorite tour was with a dad and daughter on a father daughter trip. We talked about how Woodruff lost their daughter but phebe says how the Lord stood by her and had an awesome conversation with how the Lord has stood by their family. So cool.

Friday we were all over the place haha. We were Roving, at the vc, Lyon drug, and at Browning gun. Crazy day. We also helped some sisters get their Sunday school lesson ready on a PowerPoint. I didn't feel like we had accomplished much at the end of the day but those sisters were so grateful it was worth it.

Saturday!
Gifford s Nielsen and his wife were here for a mission tour! I didn't give him a tour at any of the sites but I got to have a couple conversations with him, shook his hand and listened to his trainings (: his wife is way cool too I love her. Here are a couple quotes I loved from this weekend:

"He doesn't want us to be average. He didn't send us here to be average. He sent us to be noble and great. He wants us to be successful."
Elder Nielsen

"Heavenly Father has given you hearts that love."
Sister Nielsen

"The NFL is the tool of the devil."
Elder Nielsen

"History continues to be made here."  President Lusvardi

"The more profound the obstacle the more profound the miracle.
I know that this is the gospel of miracles.
You've seen miracles, I've seen miracles and you'll continue to see miracles.
Because this is the gospel of miracles."
Elder Neilsen

President Nelson, what do you think about during the sacrament?
"Only Him."
President Nelson

Sunday we served at the Print shop, and I got to answer some people's questions about Muslims  and then teach a young man how to use technology for good. Then we had dinner with the wadleys!! She was the one that was in 17 miracles, we had an awesome dinner and come follow me study session with them (:

But yeah! That's kinda my week! Can't wait to talk to you

Love,

June 10, 2019

It has been a long day haha and Okay so we came to email but then I forgot my journal so now I'm going off memory alone.... sorry if I forget stuff.
First off: gratitude prayers.
My life is changed! I've been working on having meaningful prayers for some time now. I've tried all sorts of different things and they are all great but this week I decided to say prayers and only say things im thankful for and not things im asking for.
This has been kind of hard but so worth it.
The scriptures that helped me decide to do this are:
Alma 34: 38 "That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, but that ye receive it, and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worship God, in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you."
And doctrine and covenants 78:19 "and he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more"
At first it was hard, because there are things that I'm used to praying for and asking for every day - blessings for my family, the gift of discernment with my guests, promptings to serve, strength to get out of bed ect. But instead I prayed how I was grateful for those things and grateful for tender mercies and grateful for Jesus christ. It has helped me realize more the blessings I receive on a daily basis and help me be better at keeping my covenant to always remember Him (:
So that's the challenge for you guys! I have loved it so much that I'm inviting you all to do it with me (: I know that if you take this invitation to heart and show your gratitude to God, He will bless you more than you have ever been blessed in your life. Those things that have been stressing you, things you have been working on and other worries on your mind will fall into place and answers will come.
This week we've had some cool experiences with guests! We had that family on Sunday that i helped go to the Sunday concert, a family that we connected with so much that before they left town they brought us Annie's frozen custard haha, and some awesome women (6 sisters who go on trips every year together) we taught at the Lucy Mac smith home. So good.
Other experiences:
At the end of last pday, when I finished calling you guys and went on a bikeride, we rode over to the old Nauvoo cemetery. I've wanted to go there ever since hearing that the Scovil family is buried there. Well, I found their graves. Not Lucius', but I found his family. The ones he would have looked at. I actually got pretty emotional and my spirit was touched as I thought of this family and so many other families like them who sacrificed so much and who trusted in their covenants. Inspiring.
On the day that we had the training with the 4 church history people, we served at the boot shop (did the vignette a lot!) Ans the cultural hall for a bit and then the print shop for like an hour and then the cultural hall until the end. phew. What a day. Also I'm attaching a voice recording of one of the church history guys talking about William gheen because he is our ancestor!!!
Trying to connect with the ypms:
We met elder "Bop It". A ypm that can beat box really good haha I'll have to send a video or something! Super funny haha.
We made a lot of banana bread this week with the sisters in our room. Sister gubler and Reed. They are fun people. (Also the same sisters we are having a prank war with hahaha) but anyways we made some BOM banana bread (yes it was your recipe mom!) And everyone loved it
I'll brag about my companion a little. One of my favorite things that she does is that she is so good at asking inspired questions. Every tour she asks different questions and uses those questions to get into the hearts of the people. She's not afraid to ask deep questions or wait as people think. I love it and I'm trying to be more like her!! She's very good at following the spirit. She applies things in preach my gospel that she probably hasn't even studied yet but applies flawlessly  because she follows the spirit haha. It's super cool to watch.
We did sealings today in the temple and it was sister pancheri first time! So cute. I just love being inside the temple. There's nothing like it!
Hopefully this email makes sense haha Sorry Its short, the day got away from us and I have 10 minutes left of pday haha
But I love you both so so so so so so much!!!!!!!!

June 3, 2019

This week.....

When we found out about transfers, some of the sisters were super stressed and worried. I didn't have a lot I could do, but what I did was I went around to different apartments and I made beds. Hahaha it sounds dumb. But all the new sisters would need their new sheets, pillows and blankets on their beds! So I did those. And then I did past companions beds because they were all trying to unpack and stuff. I was proud of my bed making because I made a lot of "picture perfect" beds haha. Sister Moss was laughing at my bed making skills because I never even make my own bed but when needed I can make other beds perfectly haha. So that was fun, and even though it was small, it was a way to serve.

Saying goodbye to sis john was hard but I'm also super proud of her. It was a great moment for me as I watched her step up to her responsibility! She welcomed her new greenie and began to give tours by herself (when needed) without being stressed. I was so proud!! She's going to do great things(: love her so much.

Im also super super super excited to be with Sister pancheri. She's literally a super star. I don't know if I've ever met a greenie with more fire! All the sisters I've trained have had their insecurities and fears and of course so does sister pancheri. But our first night together, at 930pm when it was time to go to bed she instead asked if we could do a companion study. She just wants to learn as much as she can, grow as much as she can and serve the best she can. I can tell that to her, even at night and when she's "off duty" she still knows that she's a missionary and acts like it. Some missionaries get home after knocking doors all day and seem to forget the importance of their call cuz it's "relaxing time" but not sister pancheri. Especially in between tours or after we finish our responsibilities for the day. She keeps working, learning and being a great example to those around her. I love that about her. And she's also flipping hilarious so it's always a good time.

The Flooding here has been insane!!! The missisipi flooded up almost to the memorial statue of the saints who died as they crossed the plains. It's crazy. A lot of towns we can't travel to today because of the flooding. Speaking of the flooding, president Lusvardi did an awesome training that was matchy matchy about it and I was so happy haha.
He used Ezekiel 47 to teach us about immersing ourselves in God's love like a river, and then inviting our guests into the water with us. One quote I liked was when he said "we don't want our guests to have an ankle deep experience." We want our guests to be fully immersed in God's love! It was awesome, and gave us lots to ponder with the flooding (:

He also gave us another training later in the week about recipes. He was teaching us that when we tell stories, we are painting a picture for people to imagine. Those are like the pictures in cookbooks. It helps give them a desire to act, change and follow the recipe. So we tell them the story, and then testify to help them know how to get the same result. And so it inspires them. Our site guide and the history facts are the ingredients, and with preach my gospel we can show them the recipe. It was an awesome analogy!! I loved it. 1) cuz I love food 2) cuz I love Nauvoo 3) cuz it's awesome to see how we help people have a desire to change.

We had a wasp adventure at the post office, they were making a nest outside the front door and we attacked it with a broom handle, knocked the nest off but then needed to wait for the bug spray to kill the actual wasps haha. Sis John was terrified, especially when the wasp flew inside!!!!

Trail of hope. Boy I think it's better this year than last year. We have a fantastic Brigham young and some of the ypms are really putting their individual testimonies in their performances. I love it. The spirit was so strong and I'm gonna go at least once a week!!

2 of the sisters here have gotten their dresses caught in the chains of their bikes while they were riding to sites this week! So crazy! It makes me worried about my dress....

Okay so also it was such a tender mercy that you guys sent me that journal because first off it is the cutest ever and second it came on a hard day and third it was perfect timing cuz I was about to run out of space. So thanks for supporting me with that little journal, it means the world to me!!!

I served at the brickyard for the first time and i thought it was so cool. I loved talking about the physical build up of Zion and the spiritual build up!! Good stuff.

Also I was praying about 3 very specific things and fasting while I prayed about it and during the sacrament, God answered all 3. The sacrament hymn had a comforting phrase  for each of those concerns. It was such a tender yet powerful moment when I realized just how much He knows me, He cares about me and is understanding of my worries. He is so infinitely good to me.

On Sunday we had dinner at the Draneys and they were so cute!!! They made us some super good homemade bread that tasted like sabotage bread a little haha
Plus also we had a great discussion about Nauvoo and our responsibility as missionaries here.

Plus also we have some church history people in town and they are going to help us with our vignette and I'm excited to learn and get better at being christiana. Plus also! I'm joining the group of sisters that does Women of Nauvoo. It's a 10 minute group vignette about relief society and at first I wasn't interested but then I decided I should use my talents and be a part of it. It's a fun and cool way of testifying of the saints and helping put our audience in their shoes!!

Ps sister Green and I did a clothing swap so I have a bunch of cute new dresses and I love it cuz it didn't even cost money! Hahaha

Anyways I love you both so much! I can't believe you be had such a crazy week haha but I'll talk to you soon.
